Got Some new things

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 20, 2008, 10:56 AM
Tutorial updates:
--June 10/08--
Ive made a section just from all my notes I have taken over the last 2 years in multimedia as well as what little knowledge I have gathered from all the useful books and links that have helped me through the last couple of years.[link]

Other News/updates
:new:--July 20/08
Made an portfolio section for all the flash, photoshop, illustrator, drawings That I've done for clients as well as teachers. To hopefully grab some attention and do some work for either a da member(doesn't have to be for money) or an actual client. [link]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Main topic

Recently got a few nice books amazon.com the other day which where worth their weight in gold. The first book I got was The Animator's Survival kit by Richards Williams(person behind the animation of the movie "Who framed Roger Rabbit") which was good technically and was funny and informative about animation. The other book I got was Cartoon animation by Preston Bliar which was more visual than the first. It showed methods on how to draw different types of characters(goofy, tough, cute etc) and how the most simplest thing can be nothing but a few circles and ovals.

Then on top of that got a photoshop and web designer magazine. The first one is about making advanced perfect portrait touch ups and the other just general information and tutorials on flash,Dreamweaver, photoshop.

But other than that I've just been working allot on nights

What the purpose of this?

Get my work noticed and land either big or minor jobs in real life or over the internet. I'm working to add more things to add to my portfolio or for an actual client who would offer money in exchange for my services.

My strengths down to my weakest talent:

Flash /after effects: flash website/Animations/interactive applications also video
photoshop: fixing old photo/fixing up minor imperfections or digital art
illustrator: vector art
3D max: 3D art/animation
dreamweaver: html websites/css/databases

Demo Reel

mostly it focuses on flash/digital and vector art in this its what I'm good at

Websites html/flash:

band website I've done for my brother's band at the time before they went off and join another one

vector/digital art:

the "Endangered animal" brochure for the game we had to make for the toronto zoo to show off our game and what it could be.

gradient mesh assignment

poster assignments

Photo manipulations:

graffiti assignment for our teachers

tattoo assignment

flash interactive/ video:

Multimedia design and productions splash page done for fanshawe college in London Ontario for our internship

Basically a interactive flash thing I did for EK3 an advertisement company based off the blackberry to show off what it can do as well as the message the company was trying to give the consumer.

basically the same as the one above but it is meant to be advertised on small video screens at clubs and social events. Its meant to be consistent with the website that looks pretty much colour oriented/photography like the features page.

drawn out or actual concepts on my planning or storyboarding procedures

our multimedia site was suppose to have a mascot for the site but was later decided to keep everything stencil style and less cartoony.

planning out how the website would look like as well as the video advertisment we have to make for the blackberry

flash video rough concept we mostly used for the video and flash content

first concept design for the multimedia website

Endanger animal game character/enemies concept art

Multimedia website website rough layouts/planing

website layout rough concepts for multimedia website

Well Tuesday I have finally graduated from my program "Multimedia design and productions". The thing I didn't like about it was they didn't give you grad hats to throw in the air at the end and they gave you a blank envelope to pretty much screw around with us grads. Besides that it wasn't too bad the food was good and they had a good special guest speaker to give a speech about her as well as what accomplishments we have to look forward to down the road. Wasn't a big fan of wearing the moo moo(its fat person dress that homer wore in the tv show "The Simpson's") which is the red gown we wore.

I don't know quite what to do now being officially done and all I guess its just to work on my portfolio and do a few years more of school.

Basically this little journal is about what little useful information I've picked up from my college program multimedia Design and productions as well as the many books/recourses I've read over the last few years. This may be updated overtime.

(-Art-)

-Keep improving don't give up pretty much if your having trouble drawing look up tutorials buy some how to draw books and anatomy. If money is an issue I already have a few links

-If you plan on doing art or any media for a living that case its always good to expand your horizons trying new things. For example you can't have a portfolio all anime cause you are pretty much limiting how well you are promoting yourself. Clients like to see that you have touched appon allot of different subjects areas like realism, landscaping perhaps even photography.

-You can still show all your other stuff that you have done too but just be aware what kind of person they are looking for and what kind of things they expect from you if they hire you. Its always good to do some research on the company ahead of time just to show that you have taken a interest in there business and to give you some insight on what you will be getting into.

for ideas on different art styles and video/websites: [link]

(-Media-)

-Generally no ones good at everything(expect those odd few) some are more stronger in areas one person can be good and flash another coder in the field its good to have connections with many people.

-for stuff like my multimedia design and productions course or animation/3D animation or whatever its good to make a demo reel. From what my professor told us you should at least update(or make a new one) every year and have it around 1min 10 seconds to 2mins. Just showing your art in a video clip isn't really appealing to anyone the best way is to add muisc. Picking a good song is critical its what makes or breaks the presentation

more in depth explanation:[link]

examples: [link]

(-Flash-)

-doing some research ahead of time is good too you can pick up flash specific magazines or web designer magazines or if money is a issue then there are tutorials.

-first thing you would normally do when you make something in flash wheather it is a application or a cartoon is to do some rough drafts(planning out how you want everything to look and for what to do). [b]I have many examples of this in my scraps[/b] and you may print this storyboard layout link off to plan out your stuff as well.

-you can plan out you scenes in flash as well if you are uncomfortable drawing everything with a pencil.

-The proper process of making a flash cartoon is(you can wing it if you want):
1.script
2.voices/music(skip voices if you don't have any)if you want tips to voice act or you need some people to do voices in your flash: [link]
3.planing it out with the script/music/voices
4.animate
5.polish it up(final checking/fixing of the different scenes)

(-Group work-)

-picking the right bunch of people is good too who share the same interests and views as yourself. Everyone must be supportive, organized, and sticking to the plan everything out(who does what and deciding on the overall look)

-keep in contact with your group make sure no one is left un-aware of any sudden changes this may cause conflicts later

-setting up deadlines in what everyone does(this can change if you are working with a bunch of people who are busy but don't leave things to the last minute cause it will make your work appear crappy)

-Well if you plan on doing group work with either art pieces or video/flash stuff then this site will be nice to bookmark. The "You send it" website is a good way of sharing working files over the internet and its free.

Well I'm finally done school went to hell and back but its done. Lately afterwards I've just been going to the pub alot drinking myself silly for the last 5 weeks so I haven't really got a whole lot done within that time span. I managed to get one painting done but soon I shall be working again over the summer and wont be heading to the bars as often as I use to giving me more time to focus on art. Hopefully This will prevent me from turning into an alcoholic since I have discovered how good rye and coke is =P .
